Review on An Abundance of Katherines
It’s a shame to see the finest kid prodigy: Collin being dumped 19 times; and the situation being worsen, all the girls that ever-dumped Collin was named Katherine. But learning from his failures Collin derives a theorem, a love theorem actually, that would help him to predict the future of anyone’s relationship.
Being said that, Collin along with his best friend sets on a road trip to get Collin away from the depression of his defeats. This mini-adventure of theirs takes them to a small town where they end up staying and making friends with a local girl. However, the town was small yet Collin and his friend did a lot of cheering activities and learned new things. Meanwhile, the bond between the local girl and Collin rises, and Collin again finds hope of having a relationship. But no matter how easy the story may seem still there are challenges to overcome. Let us find out how Collin and his friend overcome these in their own nerdish ways, filled with comedy. In addition to that Collin also gives lessons on how the theorem on love works and shows us how can something as complex as love can be made simplified and predictable under the principles of mathematics. All being said readers will surely enjoy this teen novel written by one of the best John Green.
The novel also comes with detailed discussions between John Green and his mathematician friend, who explains to John Green how to plot love graphs and make such theorems, under real algebra, work. If someone is really intrigued by Collin’s discovery, they can further pursue the theory thanks to a mathematician friend of John Green’s.
The novel also portrays the author himself, as in his student years, John Green was dumped many times in relationships, which he mentioned in the author’s note. All these facts make the novel a delightful experience to catch and come up with a life lesson that one must not lose hope in the war of love, as one day the odds may finally end up in one’s favor.
